  1. Thanks so much for commenting!!!
I do agree that it is cool that magic is not an anomaly and secret in that world. The magic in that world is kind of the opposite of Harry Potter because everyone knows and accepts magic as what it is. In Harry Potter, the magic is kept a secret from the Muggles. But both of the magic worlds are very likable. Anyway… You should (and everybody else) read the next ones in the series. (And I think you, Penny have!) My overall favorite character is Bennett. He is the best body guard and he makes the best biscuits!! 🙂 (I wish I could have some!!)

  2. I loved this book, too! First, I like that Conn is a bit of a scamp. I was interested in him right away, and I wanted to find out how his relationship with Nevery would work out. I also like the idea that a whole city needs magic to function. I agree with you, Mrs. Eaves, that it is a nice twist to have magic as something that everyone needs and that everyone accepts as normal. Fun and exciting!

  3. This is one of my favorite books! I’m so glad someone wrote a review on it. A few of my students have read and loved the book, with it’s mystery, fantasy and, secret codes. I can’t wait to read other books that you have showcased here!

  4. Matt,
I’m glad you reviewed this book. It is the beginning of a great trilogy. I hope lots of kids will read it now. It has an interesting twist because magic is living and is what keeps Wellmet alive as a community. I guess there are threats everywhere, but the way Conn and his friends deal with this one makes it an exciting story.
